Using Substack as a Christian Writer
And an Invitation to Download Digital Gifts for Your Writing, Prayer Life, and Faith

Substack is an awesome platform for Christian writers to share their writing. I’ve found Substack to be a beautiful and encouraging space to let God’s words—and yours—shine.
A few weekends ago I had the honor of leading a workshop with a group of Christian writers interested in starting their own Substack. I’m sharing with you the highlights —and a downloadable PDF!—of what I shared with that group. Enjoy!
Substack is a FREE platform that enables writers to share written content, podcasts, and videos directly to their subscribers, fostering a direct relationship between creators and their audience.
You can use Substack in 1 of 5 ways (or mix and match to meet your needs):
A blogging platform/mini-website where you can write posts on your Substack with links to your website/books/podcast etc.
A newsletter platform where you can build a list of subscribers and email your subscribers each Substack post you write.
A podcasting platform where you can upload your podcast episodes and other content related to each episode.
A social media platform called Notes where you can engage with your followers as well as find & connect with other writers on Substack.
A monetization platform where you can offer exclusive content to paying subscribers.

Substack is a thriving platform and a community where we can faithfully cast our words (and God’s Word) and leave the results up to God.
Just because we don’t see results right away doesn’t mean God isn’t using it. Isaiah 55:11 promises that God’s Word doesn’t return to Him empty but it accomplishes what He desires.
“Well done, good and faithful servant…”

We are called to be faithful (not famous or fruitful!) with the words God has given us share with others.
Jesus was all about ministering to the people who were right in front of Him, not trying to continually seek out more followers. Be faithful to and consistently share content with the followers you do have (and those who will read your words without becoming a follower.)

Download and print out your checklist and slowly work your way through it, one step at a time. And all along the way, keep sharing those God-given words, soak in all the godly conversations and community on Substack, and have fun!
