Co-Writing with God
Encouragement to help you pray for your writing
Hi my fellow praying writer!
As Christian writers, we have the honor and privilege of co-writing with God. I think that’s why so many authors mention God in their acknowledgements—they know they couldn’t have written the words in their books without His calling and equipping.
Every word we write is ultimately a word He has given us to write. Prayer isn’t just something we do before we write or before we share our words with our readers—it’s what helps us stay aligned with Him so we can write the words He truly wants us to write.
Prayer is what helps us surrender our will, listen for His leading, and walk forward in faithful obedience in our calling.
So far, God and I have co-written three books together: Embracing This Special Life, On the Same Page with God, and Embracing Emmanuel.
I know that all three of these books would not exist without me prayerfully wrestling my will into alignment with His, and without God’s faithful equipping.
I had the honor of sharing my testimony about my writing journey on my friend Kim’s website. You can read my story here, or check out the Instagram post here.
I hope my testimony reminds you that we never walk this calling of writing alone. We always have the gift of His presence, His perfect provision, and the power of prayer as we pursue the calling He has given us.
Oh, and if you’d like to share about your own book or your own writing testimony, I encourage you to sign up to write a guest blog post on Kim’s website here.
I’ll leave you with this quote:
“Whether we write lyrics or craft legislation, sell homes or teach classes, design spaces or open franchises, prayer is a critical part of the creative process. Don’t just brainstorm; praystorm.”

Here’s to praying for our writing and to co-writing with our Heavenly Father,
Jenn
P.S. I love hearing how you’re praying for your writing or what God’s been teaching you through it. Hit reply and share your story with me, or share with us in the comments!

That was so beautifully written Jenn I really appreciate how you remind us that writing isn’t just a craft but a calling led by the Holy Spirit It’s amazing to think that when we pray before and during our writing we’re actually inviting God to speak through our words Your message reminded me of Proverbs:16:3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your plans and also of John:15:5 where Jesus says apart from Me you can do nothing Prayer truly keeps our hearts humble and our focus on Him Sometimes we may face seasons of silence or discouragement in our writing but those are often the moments God is shaping our words through faith and trust I’ve learned that when I write from a place of prayer His message flows far more powerfully than my own thoughts Thank you for encouraging writers everywhere to walk in obedience and to let God’s Spirit breathe life into every sentence May the Lord continue to inspire your work and may every word you write bring comfort strength and hope to those who read it Please also remember our Indian ministry in your prayers as we continue to share the love of Christ among people who need Him deeply And as Christmas is approaching we’re praying for small gifts for our children sister so they too can feel the joy of this season through God’s provision
